Seventeenth Birthday: A Short Recap

Since Thing 4's sisters were arriving the morning of his birthday we planned family breakfast to kick off the celebrations.  My cinnamon rolls were a flop and now I can't even remember what we had other than bacon and fruit.  I suppose it's irrelevant at this point.  What does matter is that all of my Things were at the table.  Together and this Mama's heart was beyond thrilled.  As I am writing the events of the day unfolding in my brain on replay, I remember our meal.  We pulled an audible and walked to our favorite pizza place, That's Amore.  Pizzas filled the table, a few jet lagged sisters and one newly 17 year old.  Again, so much chatter and story telling and remembering and two beyond happy parents, thanks to having all of our people in one location again.

Good morning birthday boy!

Thing 4's activity of choice for the day was bowling so off through Prater and to the bowling alley we went.   Thing 3 was still recovering from a mild concussion she experienced at the barn moving bales of hay so she took it easy.  The rest of us, well not so much.  We were in it to win it!  The bowling began and so did the antics.  Thing 4 is by far the best bowler in the family and lead the way.  It was a fun afternoon spent together.  Then home for card games that we had been waiting to play until we were altogether.  With only three of us living here there were a few games we couldn't play until we had more people, and one in particular that requires partners and signals and speed: KENT.  Now if you were near our apartment during this time I apologize.  Yelling, friendly of course, antics, cards being slammed down on the table and sighs of frustration could have been heard.

Riding public to the bowling alley!

Thing 3 had a mild concussion and an injured wrist which left her bowling like a toddler but happy to participate nonetheless!

All smiles to celebrate Thing 4!

Birthday dinner menu included Mom's homemade chicken pot pie and Oreo cheesecake for dessert.  Thankfully the cooking and baking of said items were a success and we all enjoyed sharing what we love about Thing 4 as we ate and laughed some more around the table.  All in all I think Thing 4 had a terrific start to his year of seventeen!

Happy Birthday to you Thing 4!

Make a wish!
